Educational seminar: PROACTIVE APPROACH TO DIGITAL ADDICTION

Digital addiction (to digital devices and the digital worlds we access through these devices) is usually addressed through the preventive paradigm (challenges from professionals, parents and teachers to reduce the use of digital devices by young people) and the curative paradigm (the use of psycho-social-health professional interventions when digital addiction occurs in young people).

However, the seminar DOES NOT pay much attention to such preventive or curative tactics. For the simple reason that digital devices have become an indispensable working tool for young people, the seminar sees no added value in focusing too much on preventive measures to reduce the use of digital devices but wants to support young people proactively. The seminar therefore includes two additional paradigms: a reflective one, which focuses on finding the origins of addiction in the light of relationship between the individual and society, and a proactive one (which focuses on the individual's understanding and strengthening of the self to more easily overcome all of the challenges and pitfalls of the digital age).

The seminar touches on various elements that (in)directly relate to digital addiction:

  • In what specific ways (in terms of archetypal origins) does digital addiction differ from other traditional types of addiction?
  • Why a preventive paradigm in dealing with digital addiction is rather limited?
  • What has happened to a modern individual (e.g. a tourist) who prefers to take selfies rather than photographs of new surroundings?
  • What are the main crises affecting young people in modern societies today?
  • Does the unaddicted state of the individual mind exist in the light of the individual self?
  • What is the most hidden and overlooked effort regarding the human self that an individual is trying to deal with?
  • What kind of developmental thinking needs to be triggered in young people to consolidate their Self?
  • Why reflecting on digital addiction through the prism of self is urgent in today's digital and AI society.
